Meet Barbara
As a lifelong advocate for public transportation, Barbara McManus has spent her entire life riding the rails and buses, literally and figuratively. From her early days riding the transit system in New Jersey, to her current regular commutes on RTD, Barbara has always been passionate about the importance of safe, reliable and efficient public transportation.
With over a decade of experience at RTD, Barbara has been at the forefront of the agency’s most significant initiatives and milestones. As Executive Manager of the Board of Directors’ Office and a member of the Senior Leadership Team, she has developed a deep understanding of RTD’s inner workings, from security concerns and budget challenges to equity and service delivery.
Throughout her tenure, Barbara has been dedicated to fostering a culture of customer service and collaboration. She has worked closely with agency staff, directors, and board members to successfully launch new light rail lines, bus-rapid transit systems, and major infrastructure projects like the renovation and grand reopening of Denver Union Station. She has shared her expertise with peers across the country by providing continuing education and training to other board support groups through the American Public Transportation Association.
When not working, Barbara enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring new destinations, cooking, entertaining, tending to her garden, visiting art galleries, botanic gardens, and appreciating architecture. She also loves live music and quiet evenings at home with her beloved 7 ½ lb Yorkie, Mr. Brody.
Now, as a candidate for the RTD Board of Directors, Barbara brings her unique blend of operational expertise, leadership skills, and support for public transportation to the table. She brings a fresh perspective and a commitment to transparency and accountability and is committed to listening to the concerns and ideas of her constituents and working tirelessly to address them.
